I was VERY busy On The Road this
month. Let's take a look...................

image#1 Lightpainting in the
Canadian Rockies near Banff, Alberta. This serene setting
of colorful canoes was shot 20minutes after sunset ( about
10:15 pm ) I captured this image with a Nikon D100, a 20 second
exposure at ISO200 , a NEW Nikon 12-24mm lens, and my Lightpainting
side kick " Mr Night Blaster "( 2million candled
powered hand held spotlight was used to illuminate the canoes
and trees.) |

image#2 Lightpainting again, this time
well after sunset and a 30 second exposure and my Nikon
D100 camera with a 12-24mm lens. I set the camera on Timer
Shutter Release for 20 seconds so I could have time to walk
to the side and Lightpaint the scene. ISO 320 at f5.6

image#3 The World Gymnastics Championships
were held at Arrowhead Pond in Anaheim August15-24. I was
asked to be the Photo Chief for the venue and the 85 accredited
photographers from around the world. Gymnasts tend to make
great images of athletic movement and interesting shapes.
As Photo Chief, I was also asked to photograph the key moments
of the 10 day event. Here, Fan Ye of China performs a Pak
Salto on the Uneven Parallel Bars. Nikon D1X, ISO 800 at 1/650sec
Nikon 70-200 VR lens f2.8. Captured with RAW NEF file on a
Lexar 512 Flash Card. |

image#4 Preparing the venue with photo
positions for photographers was one of my responsibilities.
I made a point of having remote camera access for the pool
of international agencies. This image of Alexei Nemov of
Russia was captured from one of many locations above the
competitive floor. Nikon D1X, ISO 640 at 1/800sec and a
Nikon 300mm lens f2.8 Captured with RAW NEF file on a Lexar
512 Flash Card.

image#5 NBC provided some great lighting
for the Worlds. Here the grid of lights concentrated on the
athletes, and not the audience. This style of lighting helped
create a dramatic image of the USA's Hollie Vise during her
signature skill on the Balance Beam. Nikon D1X, Nikon 70-200VR

to see a great sunset. I used a Nikon COOLPIX 5700 to capture

The World Gymnastics Championships
was a huge undertaking for me. I could not have done it alone
and was fortunate to have Max Morse from Brooks Institute and
Danny Scannell, a long time friend and Gymnastics coach assist
me during the Championships. We made a great team and hope all
the photographers enjoyed photographing the sport of Gymnastics.
This was an exhausting month and
an exhausting summer of projects. As always, I look forward to
